NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

03/12/2010 - Tulsa, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The top-seeded and 25th-ranked Texas-El Paso Miners come together with the fifth-seeded Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the semifinal round of the Conference USA Tournament today at the BOK Center. The survivor of this bout will advance to the finals against the winner of the Southern Miss/Houston matchup.

The Miners, who are ranked for the first time since 1992, continued their magical run with a 76-54 trouncing of ninth-seeded UCF in the quarterfinals last night. It marked the 15th win in a row for UTEP, which its coming off its first outright regular-season title since 1987. The Miners are now 4-4 all- time in the C-USA Tournament and are making their second semifinals appearance in the last three years.

As for the Hurricane, it finished outside of the top four during the regular season, so it did not receive a bye unlike UTEP. After rallying past 12th- seeded Rice in the first round, Tulsa upended fourth-seeded Marshall, 80-64, in the quarterfinals last night. The Hurricane, which has the luxury of playing in its own backyard basically, is now just one win away from a third straight title game appearance.

Tulsa leads the all-time series with UTEP, 26-13, but the Miners swept a pair of meetings from the Hurricane during the regular season.

The Hurricane closed the game on a 27-7 run, as it pulled away for an 80-64 win over Marshall last night. Tulsa shot 50.0 percent from the floor for the game and also went 19-of-26 at the foul line. Jerome Jordan registered a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to head the charge, while Ben Uzoh logged 18 points and six assists. The versatile Uzoh leads Tulsa in scoring (15.5 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg), to go with 4.7 rpg. Jordan, a seven- foot center, adds 15.3 ppg and a team-high 8.8 rpg to the mix, while Justin Hurtt averages 14.0 ppg.

The Miners opened the game with a 15-3 run and never looked back en route to a 76-54 romp of UCF last night. UTEP shot a scorching 56.0 percent from the floor and scored 19 points on 15 UCF giveaways. Jeremy Williams led the way with 17 points, while Randy Culpepper chipped in with 10. UTEP emptied the bench with the game out of reach and no starter played more than 24 minutes. Culpepper, the C-USA Player of the Year, is a presence at both ends of the court, leading UTEP with 17.8 ppg and 53 steals. Derrick Caracter adds 13.8 ppg and a team-best 8.1 rpg to the rotation, while Williams tacks on 10.5 ppg.

Football Betting: Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Bet on NFL Football

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.

Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.

Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.

All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.

A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
